Cellular Adaptations occur when there are severe and demanding stresses on a cell, that a cell with its current genetic programming and structure and metabolism is unable to withstand. In order to survive, the cell adapts by numerous different responses in its architecture and function. A cell may adapt by hyperplasia, hypertrophy or atrophy. Moreover, a cell may become injured and lead to cell death, either necrosis or apoptosis. Here we discuss these.
