Diseases Disorders
Here is a list of diseases and disorders (links), mainly of the immune system and neoplasia, cancers.
Believed causes of white blood cell disorders are many, but here we will mention a few. The most important are chromosomal translocations and activation of oncogenes. These changes occur during faulty antigen receptor gene rearrangements and expression. As both T and B cells require V(D)J recombinase activity, it is this manipulation of DNA breakage and rejoining, that when coupled with extensive proliferation and stimulation, can lead to a mistake that confers a clonal cell a selection advantage. Furthermore, B cell disorders are more common due to their ability to be able to class switch antibodies and through somatic hypermutation which is suppose to increase antibody specificity. Moreover, patients with inherited genetic disease are more prone to white cell diseases. These include Fanconi anemia, Bloom syndrome, trisomy 21 and neurofibromatosis type I.
