Frozen Sections
Frozen sections are a method of tissue analysis that allows for quick interpretation of tissue during surgery. These sections can also be used in the preparation of sections containg fats and enzymes which can easily be lost in alcohol or paraffin sections.
Fresh tissue is first frozen in isopentane chilled on dry ice.
Sections are subsequently cut in a refrigerated cryostat into 5 to 10 micrometre sections.
